Two-dimensional shallow
water ow in channels
with bed variations
To model two-dimensional (2D) ow in channels with bed variation, the
depth and bed level variations must be accounted for. To maintain the
well balance property (that is to avoid bed level change generated ows) of
the numerical scheme, a form of the two-dimensional shallow water ow
equations that is suitable for channels with bed variations is presented.
The application of the slope limiter and ux approximation for this form
of equations is described. The resulting model is tested using laboratory
and natural channel ows.
