Inductors and inductance
Had the cable supplying the motor been rated on the kW value it would
clearly have been undersized.
Applications
Inductors, or chokes as they are more popularly called, are used in many
areas of modern technology. In electrical installation work the main
application is in fluorescent lighting, where the choke is open-circuited
across the ends of the tube to cause it to strike. This effect is discussed
further in Chapter 3. Motor windings are also inductances.
