Inductance and Capacitance
in Installation Work
In Chapters 1 and 2 we have discussed separately the effects of
inductance and capacitance in an a.c. circuit. Here we consider how
these effects may be applied, and in some cases, combined in a.c.
circuits.
The magnetic effect of an inductor has many uses. It is,
however, in equipment such as motors and fluorescent lighting that
its effect on the power factor is substantial enough to cause concern,
and make it necessary to improve the power factor.
