Tablets, large-screen phones, readers, and phablets have become ubiquitous artifacts in our daily lives. They are a science fiction staple turned reality that we now take for granted. Your life may be different, but damage to these devices seems to be a regular occurrence in my household. Budget manufacturing techniques may have a great deal to do with this, but wear and tear is a significant contributor. (See Figure 9-1.)
