ACCOUNT IDENTIFICATION
The Swiss still have those famous “numbered” accounts. A
number–letter combination is used to designate the account,
with the identity of the holder known only to a few employees
in the bank. Although personal identication is required to open
an account, deposits can be made without a verication of ID.
Withdrawals may be a different story since, as we’ve seen, there
are restrictions on large withdrawals from savings accounts.
The number–letter code, rather than a signature, is used
in all transactions, with most orders made in writing, using
the code. If an avocat has been appointed, the transactions
will be arranged through this person, who may be known to
the banker.
