Chapter 4. Using Motivational Communication Techniques

Communications is perhaps the most subtle art. Two people might say the same words, but one might motivate and inspire employees and the other might turn them off. Generalizing about motivational communications is therefore a dangerous game. If, for instance, I were to simply leave you with a piece of advice such as, ''Be sure to ask employees lots of questions,'' would I be steering you right or wrong? Well, it all depends . . . but on what? In this chapter I want to dig a little deeper by examining some very specific communications techniques and by being clear and specific enough to ensure that what I recommend is highly likely to work.
