Exploring the Basic Apps

The best way to learn about apps is to open and explore the most basic apps available. Two easy apps to use are the Calculator and Clock. Games are also intuitive, but only if you've played games on other devices. (I won't discuss games here, but you may want to try Dungeon Defender, available from the Open Apps menu.) Music, Talk, and the like are just as self-explanatory, and you can open them if you aren't sure what they offer.

Take a few minutes to browse the apps available to you. Note the apps on the Home screen and additional screens you access by flicking. Then, tap the Open Apps icon to view the hidden apps. Finally, open any other app; you can always close it if it seems to need some input you're not ready to supply.

THE CLOCK AND THE CALCULATOR

The Clock and Calculator are excellent starter apps. The Alarm Clock is available from the default Home screen, and the Calculator is available from the Open Apps icon. To open either, simply tap it.

To use the Clock app to set an alarm, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Open Apps icon, and tap Clock.
  2. Tap Set Alarm. ...
