Strategy, pure and simple, is the approach you intend to use to reach your vision. In his book, Best-Laid Plans: Turning Strategy into Action Throughout Your Organization,1 Alan Weiss says there are two elements to strategy: what you want to achieve and how you intend to do it. This encompasses both the “what” and the “how” of strategy. Unfortunately, many companies fail to connect these two elements. For any strategy to be successful, there must be clear alignment between the vision, the business strategy, and the operations strategy.
