THE THREE DIMENSIONSOF MEC

This chapter introduces three main aspects that should be considered for the success of the adoption of multi-access edge computing (MEC) technology: deployment (making it work), operation (making it work at scale), and charging/billing models for MEC (making it have a business sense).

In deciding to deploy an MEC system, we face several challenges – the first of these is, quite simply, how do I design a system that (i) meets my needs and (ii) can be deployed today. As our discussion in the first two chapters indicates, this is not a straightforward affair. No single standards body defines a complete working system (nor, as we argued, should they!).
