CHAPTER 5 Optimal Placement of Multiple Visual Sensors

Abstract

In this chapter we will focus on the optimal placement of visual sensors such that a predefined area is maximally or completely covered at a certain resolution. We consider different tasks in this context and describe two types of approaches to determine appropriate solutions. First we propose algorithms that give a globally optimal solution. Then we present heuristics that solve the problem within a reasonable time and with moderate memory consumption, but at the cost of not necessarily determining the global optimum.
