Abstract

This chapter surveys some of the fundamental philosophical questions that are raised by multisensory interactions. In particular, we will focus on a series of interrelated questions raised by the evidence of pervasive and substantive interactions between sensory systems at all levels of processing. These issues include the nature of the senses and sensory individuation (offering an account of what makes a sense a sense, and what separates it from the other modalities), how to understand and type sensory interactions, and the issue of what multisensory perception represents and how it feels. ...
