I got my first guitar for Christmas when I was five or six years old—a Roy Rogers children’s toy. A couple of years later, it was deemed that my older brother Tom would take lessons at Willis Music, the local music store on Gratiot Avenue a couple of miles from my house. My parents bought him a Gibson ES-120T Thinline Fully Hollow Body Electric Archtop. It was the cheapest electric guitar that Gibson made, but to me it seemed like it must have cost a million dollars.
