Pitch Notation

The staff is a series of five lines upon which you can place musical notes. You can place notes both on and between the lines of the staff, as shown in Figure 5.1.

The Treble Clef

A staff is useless, however, without a clef. Score editors use two main clefs. First is the treble clef, which is placed at the beginning of the staff, as shown in Figure 5.2.
