The Bass Clef

Notes below Middle C are represented on a staff that has a bass clef. To learn the positions of the notes, you again use Middle C as a starting point. In this case, Middle C is represented as a note placed upon a ledger line immediately above the staff. The positions of all of the other notes are thus calculated by counting down from Middle C. Here it is important to remember to count backward in the musical alphabet, as shown in Figure 5.6.
