Shuffle Rhythm

When the central note of each triplet is missed, the result is a shuffle rhythm. Originally starting with jazz and swing styles, the shuffle has come to pervade all types of modern music, from dance to popular (see Figure 7.19). To get an idea of shuffle rhythms listen to Track 16.

To obtain a decent shuffle on a drum machine, you must select the correct resolution—in other words, triplets. Triplets are indicated in software programs in different ways.
