22. Exotic Scales

As really useful alternatives to the major and minor scales, so far we have looked at the pentatonic scale and the five modes that can be derived from it, as well as the seven-note diatonic scale and its group of modes (Ionian, Dorian, and so on). Another really great source of inspiration for new musical ideas can come from the so-called exotic scales. These scales often are drawn from music outside of our Western traditions.
