Putting Your iPhone to Sleep

After you've turned on your iPhone, you can change it from on to sleep mode to conserve battery power while still receiving phone calls or text messages. To put an iPhone that is already turned on to sleep, do this:

  1. Press the Sleep/Wake button once. The screen darkens.

Note

At a glance, you cannot tell whether an iPhone is turned off or in sleep mode. If you press the Home or Sleep/Wake button and your iPhone turns on, then you'll know it was asleep. If you press either button and nothing happens, then you'll know that it's turned off.
