8.7. Pretuning the Stack

Once the right people are involved, and a baseline is established, you can move into another important preparation area: pretuning. Going through your technology stack to ensure that you're at least 90% of the way there in terms of core system configuration makes a lot of sense. In the past, I've created custom checklists for my clients that identified configuration tweaks and tuning relevant to a particular solution stack. This kind of approach saved everyone time and money, because it provided a solid foundation on which the rest of the performance tuning team could base their work.
