Where to Get MySQL

The MySQL Web site (http://www.mysql.com/downloads/index.html) is, of course, the primary place to get MySQL, and it also has a list of mirror sites. Versions are available for Linux and MS Windows, as well as other operating systems. This Web site also has information that is not apparent at the FTP site, so it is considered a better source for beginners.

You will probably need FTP software so you don’t have to use your browser. After your Internet connection is open, start a program such as Gftp. (If you are using Linux and Xwindows, check the “Internet” programs on your start bar, or check under “Gnome and X Apps” if you are using KDE.) Type in the host as ftp.mysql.com.
