Where to Get GTK+ and How to Install It

Again, I have to recommend RPMs as the way to go (see the section titled “Deciding On an Installation Method-Pros and Cons” in Chapter 1). I recommend that you get the latest from the GTK+ Web site: www.gtk.org. (At least go there first to find a list of mirror sites.)

When you’re connected, fire up your FTP software and point it to ftp.gtk.org. (You can use your browser, just put in ftp://ftp.gtk.org/. However, this may cause occasional problems with the download, so it’s best to stick to FTP software if you can.) At the time this book was written, the full path was ftp.gtk.org/pub/gtk/v1.2/binary/RPMS/RedHat-6.2/RPMS/i386/.
