Everyone seems to have a different idea of what makes for ease of use when it comes to configuration, but most, if the blogosphere is any indication, seem to agree that Nagios isn’t it. Although I’ve yet to meet anyone who enjoys configuring Nagios from scratch, it’s sometimes surprising to me what people think will rectify the situation. Web forms, databases, autodiscovery tools, and wizards have all been proposed and created, resulting in a dizzying array of options that seek to simplify the act of configuration. So many, in fact, that I would be remiss if I didn’t include a chapter on making configuration easier.
