8.6.2  Functionalization of Si NWs
Two approaches for functionalizing the Si NWs are element-doping and
surface chemical modication (Yang et al. 2006). Compared with the ele-
ment-doping method, chemical modication is easily controlled and able to
anchor various functional groups on the surface of Si NWs. For Si NWs, the
linker molecule of choice depends on whether or not the wire has an oxide
