Chapter 4

Characterization of Nanomaterials for NanoEHS Studies

Robert I. MacCuspie

While many definitions of what a nanomaterial is exist today, nearly all of these definitions include physical size ranges. Several definitions also mention novel properties different from bulk materials as a requirement to be a nanomaterial. Thus, characterization of a material is required before it can be labeled a nanomaterial.
