Chapter 4

Gas–Liquid Separators

Abstract

This chapter covers minimum requirements for the process design (including criteria for type selection) of gas (vapor)–liquid separators used in oil and gas processing plants. Gas–liquid separators can be generally divided into two main groups, high gas to liquid ratio (e.g., flare knock-out drums, scrubbers) and low gas to liquid ratio (e.g., oil/gas separators, flash tanks) separators. In this chapter, process aspects of the most frequently used gas (vapor)–liquid separators are discussed in detail.
