Abstract
This chapter reviews the intersection of two appealing domains: classical constrained engineering design problems and nature-inspired metaheuristic algorithms. Engineering design problems consist of numerous equality and inequality constraints. The heuristics to solve these problems need to incorporate a mechanism to handle constraints so as to optimize constrained problems.
