B.1. Why Use STL?

The Standard Template Library (STL) is part of the ANSI C++ standard. STL consists of 10 generic container classes that store and retrieve objects with value semantics. With generic algorithms and iterators, STL offers a wide variety of ways to work with container elements. The end result is a standard set of portable and efficient programming components for C++ programming.

STL offers the following advantages:

  • STL containers are generic. Templates let you use the same container with any class or built-in type.
