Chapter 14. Network Services—Local Network Services

While FreeBSD offers a rock solid platform for running network services, it is not only about Internet services. There are also some network services that are designed and being used mostly on the local area networks. Such services include DHCP, NFS, NIS, Printer Sharing, SMB (Windows File Sharing), and so on. There are also a few protocols that a system/network administrator have to deal with frequently, such as TFTP and SNMP.

As you may have guessed already, some parts of the mentioned services are already included in the core FreeBSD system. They do not need to be installed separately, while a few others should be installed from the ports system.
