unified control for both IP and EON layers has not been addressed
yet. More importantly, although more mature and intelligent, a
GMPLS-based control plane may not be an ideal solution for the
deployment in a real operational scenario because of its distrib-
uted nature and high complexity, especially for a unified control
functionality in IP and optical multilayer networks, as previously
