12 The Reflective Practitioner
Schön described “reflective practitioners” as individuals who are able to cope with change and uncertainty by interpreting and responding to particular situations in their area of professional practice. Schön further identified two contrasting and conflicting areas of professional practice. The first was the “high ground” supported by “technical rationality”, where manageable problems with a clear end could be tackled through the application of research-based theory to identify suitable means to that end. The second, and he felt more significant dimension, was the “swampy low ground” where the ends are confused and there is no clear problem to solve, what we have called wicked problems. ...
