Chapter 1. Introduction to Networking
OBJECTIVES
This chapter covers the following CompTIA-specified objectives for the “Media and Topologies” section of the Network+ exam.
Recognize the following logical or physical topologies, given a schematic diagram or description:
Star/hierarchical
Bus
Mesh
Ring
Wireless
One of the fundamental network concepts that must be understood by all network administrators is topologies. A handful of topologies are currently defined and in use, and you will be expected to know the characteristics of each one.
Specify the main features of the 802.2 (LLC), 802.3 (Ethernet), 802.5 (Token Ring), 802.11b (wireless), and FDDI networking technologies, including the following:
