Providing Feedback

The ability to listen and respond effectively is one of the trainer’s most important skills. Providing feedback (that is, commenting on what is said) can reinforce a particular point, enhance a participant’s self-esteem, and encourage further discussion. Listen to what a participant says and comment on his or her ideas before going on to another person’s ideas. Be encouraging, with phrases such as, “That’s a good point,” or “Your point is very important” when someone participates. Be sure to provide feedback during general discussions as well as after simulation activities.
