Tool 11-2: Sample Memo to the New Employee’s Co-workers

The supervisor plays a pivotal role in making the new employee feel welcome in the department. To that end, the supervisor should prepare the staff for the new worker’s arrival. No matter how small or informal the group may be, the supervisor should send a memo to all department employees, telling them the name of the new employee, when the employee will arrive, what he or she will be doing, where he or she will be located, and such information as the new person’s previous job, background, or qualifications.
