When evaluating NFS client and server products, performance is one of the most important considerations for most customers. Selection of NFS client and server implementations is normally considered separately. For UNIX clients the NFS implementation normally comes bundled with the operating system, and its performance is secondary to other features of the client and its overall suitability for running the customer’s applications. Since NFS is not normally included with PC clients, there is a choice of NFS products, though there are no standard industry benchmarks to evaluate those client implementations. Also, the performance of client NFS depends heavily on the power and efficiency of the NFS server.
