Many advertisements for jobs state a requirement for experience of ‘full project life cycle’. But is it reasonable to expect one person to have an aptitude for project concept, ideas generation and divergent thinking as well as having completer finisher behaviour for closure? In R&D portfolios we found that some people were very good at working with new concepts and project start-ups but were relatively poor at the discipline of managing delivery to time.
