3.2 ETHICS AND WELL FORMED OUTCOMES
Ethical behaviour is returning to fashion in society and to the professions. 124 The popular backlash to the near failure of the global banking system in 2008 is likely to accelerate the pace of change. The move towards chartered status by the UK’s Association for Project Management has brought to the fore the need to demonstrate that it is ‘acting for the good of the public’, and this requirement cascades down to professional project managers. Professional bodies, like the APM and BCS, have ethics and standards committees that have the power to ‘strike off’ individuals who do not act in the public good in the same way that medical doctors or lawyers can be struck off and prevented from practicing.
