3.3 WHY THESE SKILLS?

We saw in Section 1.8 that there are many skills and competences required for effective management of projects. Rather than slavishly follow a long compound list, I decided to follow my own process for managing stakeholder requirements – ask them what they want! Hence, I met with a cross section of my stakeholders, including: the publisher, heads of PM profession, people responsible for competence frameworks in professional bodies, project sponsors, executives from recruitment agencies, trainers and of course project professionals. I asked them one of my favourite NLP questions – ‘If I had a magic wand and I could give you/your PM any skills that would make a real difference, what would they be?’
