Modelling the deformability of biaxial non-crimp fabric composites

Abstract:

This chapter is focused on modelling the forming behaviour of biaxial non-crimp fabrics (NCFs). In Section 7.1, the motivation for modelling NCFs is given. Following a short description of the meso-structure of NCFs (Section 7.2) the effect of the stitch architecture on the shear and forming behaviour of NCFs is demonstrated. In Section 7.3, the two main approaches to modelling the forming behaviour of NCF are reviewed and in Sections 7.4 and 7.5, the capabilities, advantages and disadvantages of each method are considered.
