A tau correlation coefcient of 0.238 shows a positive, but weak, relation-
ship between job satisfaction and self concept. Nevertheless, the analyst
is interested in whether the correlation is statistically signicant.
Let us use SPSS to calculate tau and the statistical signicance for these
data. SPSS does not require that the data be entered in rank order; nor is
it necessary to be concerned with tied ranks. If the data are on a continu-
