of words. This is called the karana (

cause of verbal knowledge.
The knowledge of words (

the knowledge of objects through the function (

vyapaar) of recalling the meaning of words.
Gautama and Vatsyayana stated in the Nyaya school
that verbal knowledge is of two kinds:
