Meteorite impacts
These disturbances can occur beneath the ocean’s
surface (e.g., underwater earthquakes or submarine
landslides) or from above (e.g., meteorite impacts).
Tsunamis have a large wave height, long wave period
and high velocity. Tsunamis can have wavelengths
ranging from 10 to 500 kms, with wave periods of up
to an hour. Due to their long wavelengths, tsunamis
behave as shallow-water waves.
When tsunamis approach the shore, they can reach
significant vertical heights, often referred to as ‘run-
