bon content, few impurities) that is required by the
steel industry.
India also imports high-grade thermal coal which has
a higher calorific value and is more efficient for power
generation.
The other factors are demand supply gaps, cost effec-
tiveness and logistics.
India’s main coal deposits are in the Gondwana
region, specifically the Damodar Valley.
