Democratization

INTRODUCTION

Democratization is a process leading to the introduction, institutionalization, and consolidation of democracy in non-democratic societies. The idea of democracy has played an important role in taking forward the world civilization. It has helped in transforming the world from power structures of monarchy, empire, and conquest to rule by the people, self-determination, and peaceful co-existence. Democracy ultimately leads to the establishment of values like liberty, equality, and justice leading to social cohesion through cooperation among citizens. As a process, democratization does not have a single defined path. It is a gradual process which takes time to consolidate.
