CHAPTER 21Regaining the Feeling
The information that I shared in this book brings with it significant complications. On the one hand, we live in an information age where we have access to enough knowledge to fuel new experiences and creative endeavors that, until recently, were beyond our imagination. This democratization of information provides immense opportunities for most to learn, work, and connect in very tangible ways. We have the information, and the technical platforms that go along with it, to actively invest our money, plan intricate details of our vacations, and even watch video footage of the raccoon outside our front door that loves our leftovers. Through this information, we have the capacity both to know and to learn, heightening our awareness regarding events near and far and fueling our knowledge regarding matters that have direct impact on our families and friends. Not only do we have the power to choose what we want to know but also when we want to know it. We can take courses when we want to learn, stream videos at the exact moment we want to be entertained, and know the precise temperature of just about anywhere on the globe at the exact moment we want to know it. The old saying is that knowledge is power, so these technical gadgets that produce this information are a strong dose of steroids.
