Managing Virtual IP Interfaces

From an IP layer perspective, a VNIC is just an object that can be plumbed as an IP interface. The ipadm create-ip command makes no distinction among the Layer 2 virtual objects that behave as data links:

In this example, I used the grep -v command to exclude the physical links already initialized. Although the ipadm command does not use the term “plumbed” in its syntax, the operation produces the same result as the ifconfig plumb command. In fact, you can view the properties of an interface made with the ipadm utility using the ifconfig utility:
