Television is a magnifying glass. Everything appears larger than it is. Take the appearance of the studio itself. If you have ever been to a news studio, you may have been surprised at how small the anchor desk area appears. On your television it looks spacious.

The television monitor presents a flat, one-dimensional image, which includes the image of you. On top of that, most of the anchor shots are shot fairly close. People on television tend to be shot from the fifth button up, or even closer. Of course there are wide shots and establishing shots of the studio, but mostly television news and hosting is confined to close-ups.
