OUR RESEARCH STEPS

THIS BOOK IS BASED on fifteen years of studies in project management, starting in the early 1990s. During this period we collected data on more than six hundred projects in the United States and Israel. Our research took place in several phases and its models evolved gradually in a long, iterative, and seldom smooth process of going back and forth between data and theory. Some of the models were apparent from the start; others emerged as more data was collected and tested.

Similarly, the specific project types kept evolving until the final picture was well defined and unchanged by additional data. Some projects exhibited additional (out of the model) characteristics; we mention them, therefore, as additional insights ...
