Early Webcams

The coffeepot camera mentioned in the introduction to this chapter inspired other first-run webcams. Early webcams included the Netscape Fish Cam and the JenniCam.

Netscape claims that the Fish Cam is the second oldest live camera site on the Internet (created in 1995). The site uses two cameras to watch a fish tank. An Internet-viewable image is updated four times a minute.

JenniCam came onto the scene in 1996. Jennifer Ringley set up a webcam for her family to keep track of her at college. Jenni now has seven cameras in operation at her home.
