How to do it...

As OpenDaylight is effectively a custom Apache Karaf distribution, it can make use of Apache Karaf Decanter by following these essential installation and configuration steps:

  1. Start OpenDaylight Container.

The Decanter 1.x requires a running instance of OpenDaylight for installation.

  1. Add Apache Karaf Decanter feature repository.

Decanter is distributed as an Apache Karaf feature repository, as such we need to make this feature available to our OpenDaylight container via the repo-add command:

opendaylight-user@root>feature:repo-add mvn:org.apache.karaf.decanter/apache-karaf-decanter/1.0.0/xml/features

Upon executing this command, the Decanter feature targets will become available to your OpenDaylight container.
