Introduction

First discovery of your network is the best of times. It’s like the first telling of a great story, a vacation to a new and wonderful land, or a new career full of promise. Cherish the experience, oh network manager, for hard work follows as surely as night follows day.

First discovery is often done without a seedfile in place. The default management domain is the set of subnets connected to the NNM system and where only full discovery can occur. This environment is often a test lab. The purpose of discovery is to verify correct cooperation of the network infrastructure with NNM. Any obvious problems will be found early in the game.
