Special Types of Network Devices

This section is intended to capture in one place various exotic, special, and interesting network devices that affect how maps appear in NNM. IP routers are special because they have so many different types of IP addresses configured, such as:

  • natural loopback address of 127.0.0.1 or similar address on network 127

  • a hot standby address that can move between routers on the same LAN segment to provide a stable routing address in the event of a hardware failure. The protocol is called hot standby routing protocol (HSRP)
